The Washington Township Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6232 Donnybrook Drive at 5:07 a.m. On arrival crews found extensive fire and smoke coming from the garage at the home.
Two residents were home at the time of the fire, both escaped the home. One resident was transported by Washington Township medical crews to Kettering Medical Center for evaluation after possible smoke inhalation. Smoke alarms sounded at this home.
Fire crews controlled the fire quickly. Fire damage is primarily in the garage and attic above. Smoke damage resulted throughout the home. The fire remains under investigation. The amount of dollar loss is yet to be determined.
The Washington Township Fire Department reminds everyone to plan and practice effective fire drills. Remain low under smoke and leave quickly. Call 9-1-1 immediately after leaving the home. Never re-enter a burning building to retrieve personal belongings or to attempt rescue of additional persons or pets. The more quickly you exit and contact the fire department, the more quickly they can arrive to minimize danger and to reduce property loss.
